A Typical Career Path in the Trades

Apprentice

4–5 Years; On-the-job training

Journeyperson

Completed Apprenticeship Program to 30+ years in the trade; Continuing education in trade/craft skills

Foreman

Minimum 2–3 years at Journey level to very experienced; 30+ years in the trade; Continuing education in supervisory skills

General Foreman

10+ years in the trade/industry

Superintendent

15+ years in the trade or Graduate of 4-year Construction Management Program and 2–3+ years of Field Experience

General Superintendent

20+ years in the trade/industry or Graduate of 4-year Construction Management Program and 10+ years of Field Experience
