Our Journey Through Time
Adolph Teichert immigrated from Germany to New York in 1866 at just 17 years old. Trained as a stonemason, he was soon recruited by the California Artificial Stone Paving Company and traveled west, where his craftsmanship quickly earned recognition. Some of his earliest work can still be seen in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and near the Mark Hopkins Hotel.

1887
Company Founded
After nearly a decade with the Artificial Stone Company, Adolph Teichert officially launched his business on August 15, 1887. His first public advertisements offered artificial stone for everything from garden walks to stable floors.

Making His Mark
A contract dated March 20, 1894 called for the construction of concrete walks in the State Capitol grounds at a cost of 10 and 7/8 cents per square foot.
1912
A Son Joins His Father
Adolph's son, Adolph Jr., joined his father as a partner to form A. Teichert & Son, quickly securing one of the first highway contracts awarded by the newly established Highway Department (now known as Caltrans).
1915
Shaping the Construction Industry
The pioneering partners began the effort to organize their profession. Meeting with representatives from 12 other contracting groups, the two helped form a local association they called the Northern California Contractors Association. Three years later, the group affiliated with the Associated General Contractors of America.
1915
First Asphalt Plant
Also in 1915, the firm built its first “hot plant” to help serve the growing need for asphalt paving materials. The small plant, in downtown Sacramento gave rise to what is now Teichert Materials.
1927
Expansion Begins
The company incorporated with Adolph Teichert, Sr. as President, Adolph Jr. as Vice President, and P.W. Schoeningh, who joined the firm in 1922, as Secretary-Treasurer. The firm became known as A. Teichert & Son, Inc.
1929
License #8
The company received California State Contractors License #8 on August 24, 1929. It is now the oldest active contractor’s license in the state of California.
1932
Expansion Begins
The company began the production of rock products under the trade name of Perkins Gravel Company, with their first crushing plant located at a gravel pit near the Sacramento county town of Perkins. It later became known as Teichert Aggregates.
1936
Moving into Mixing
Teichert purchased its first concrete mixer trucks, adding the production and delivery of ready-mixed concrete using the fleet of five trucks. A second crushing operation was added in 1939 with the purchase of Del Paso Rock Products Company.
1939
Embarking on Joint Ventures
A. Teichert & Son, Inc. embarks on its first joint venture in 1939, a project with United Concrete Pipe and Ralph A. Bell to construct tunnels and to relocate the railroad, telephone & telegraph lines around the Shasta Dam. This was the first of dozens of joint projects across several states.
1941-1945
Supporting the World War II Effort
All the firm’s resources were dedicated to World War II efforts, with projects ranging from airports and ammunition storage facilities to runways, roads, utilities, and water, light, and fuel systems.
1950s
Growth & Innovation
Teichert opens its first precast operation as a use for returned concrete, marking the company's initial use of recycled concrete. The Perkins Gravel Company also installs a 25-ton crusher, the first on the West Coast.
1960s
Teichert Aggregates Officially Established
Materials operations including Del Paso Rock Products, Perkins Gravel Company, and the Tracy Rock and Gravel Company all become known as Teichert Aggregates. In 1965, ground is broken for the new Perkins rock plant its first batch of rock is produces the next year.
1968
Mobile Equipment Division Created
A. Teichert & Son, Inc. officially creates the Mobile Equipment division which supplies and maintains construction equipment to Teichert Construction and Teichert Aggregates.
1971
Defining the Teichert Look
The current blue Teichert logo is adopted. The following year the new “Safety Green” paint scheme is adopted for the company equipment.
1980s
Continued Growth
Santa Fe Aggregates and Triangle Properties join the Teichert Family of Companies and the Teichert, Inc. holding company was formed at the end of the decade.
1990
Teichert Foundation is Formed
The Teichert Foundation is formed to take a long-term view as a responsible corporate citizen. Giving back to the communities in which Teichert’s employees live and where the company conducts business is a lasting legacy of Adolph Teichert.
2000
Teichert Materials Launches
Teichert Materials is established to encompass all of Teichert's material operations. This includes the production of aggregate, asphaltic concrete and concrete products. The first rock at the "new" Vernalis Rock Plant is also processed this year.
2004
The Launch of StoneBridge Properties
Stonebridge Properties formed to develop Teichert-owned properties. As Teichert’s master development arm, StoneBridge Properties focuses on repurposing urban spaces into thriving residential and mixed-use communities.
2019
Teichert Energy & Utilities is Established
Teichert's utilities, pipeline, waterworks, and solar units are combined to form Teichert Energy & Utilities Group, Inc., to serve the joint trench, solar, and underground utility markets in Northern and Southern California, with projects expanding across the United States.
2020 - 2024
Teichert Materials & Teichert Construction Continue to Expand
In 2020, Teichert acquires Western Aggregates, LLC and Mathews Readymix, LLC from Eagle Materials. In 2022, Teichert acquires Spanish Springs Construction, Inc. of Sparks, Nevada. And in 2024, Teichert acquires Truckee North Tahoe Materials (TNT) from Marsh Ventures, Inc.
2025
The Fifth Generation of Leadership
Mary Teichert, great-great-granddaughter of Adolph Teichert, is named CEO of Teichert, Inc. Mary previously served as President (2020) and COO (2013).
