The Teichert Family of Companies

Founded in 1887, Teichert has been a cornerstone of California's infrastructure development for over a century, and continues to expand across the U.S. With a commitment to integrity and craftsmanship, the company has evolved alongside the needs of the communities it serves. Today, Teichert continues to uphold its values while contributing to the growth and restoration of California's landscape.

A Proud History

Our story began when a young man named Adolph Teichert immigrated from Germany to New York, then traveled west to Sacramento to help lay the sidewalks around the original State Capitol building. In 1887, he started his own business building walkways, cellar floors, sidewalks, fencing, and other projects. That small venture laid the foundation for what would become the Teichert Family of Companies.

Safety: The Cornerstone of
Our Culture

At the Teichert Family of Companies, safety is the centerpiece of our organization. Our commitment to safety is deeply rooted in our historical commitment to the well-being of our most valuable asset: our people. Henry Teichert exemplified this dedication by establishing a comprehensive company-wide safety program in 1959, a full 11 years before the enactment of OSHA in 1971. Our safety culture, built on care and concern, extends not only to our employees, but also to our contractors, customers and community members.

Safety Starts With Leadership

  • Leading by Example: Our leadership team is deeply involved in the safety process, setting the standard for proactive risk management.
  • Empowered Workforce: We foster an environment where every employee is encouraged to take ownership of safety and engage in open dialogue about workplace hazards.
  • Shared Responsibility: Safety is a collective effort, requiring the active participation and commitment of every team member across our operations.

A Proactive Safety Culture

  • Proactive Mitigation: We utilize a comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS) to identify, assess, and mitigate risks before they lead to incidents.
  • Stop Work Authority: Every individual on a Teichert job site is granted "Stop Work Authority," empowering them to halt any task they deem unsafe without hesitation.
  • Behavior-Based Safety: Our Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program focuses on real-time observations and feedback to reinforce safe work habits and continuous improvement.

Training & Tools for Safer Work

  • Investing in Expertise: We provide extensive safety education, from foundational training for new hires to specialized certifications for complex utility and construction tasks.
  • Apprenticeship & Growth: Our commitment to professional development ensures that our teams are equipped with the latest skills to navigate modern infrastructure challenges safely.
  • Continuous Learning: We regularly review our safety performance and industry best practices to maintain a leading-edge safety culture.

Supporting Total Well-Being

  • Physical Readiness: Programs like "Stretch and Flex" are integrated into our daily routines to help prevent injuries and prepare our team for physical demands.
  • Mental Well-being: We recognize that safety includes mental health, providing resources and awareness to support the overall well-being of our employees.
  • Support Beyond the Site: Our wellness initiatives are designed to promote a healthy lifestyle for our employees and their families.

Committed to Safety

In pursuit of our goal of achieving “world-class safety” and ensuring every employee returns home safely each day, we carefully track indicators to garner a comprehensive understanding of our safety landscape and trends.

The Origins of Our
Teichert Green

The distinctive “Safety Green” color was designed to enhance the visibility of Teichert’s trucks. As a highly visible color, the bright green of our trucks, coupled with the triangle-shaped logo, symbolizes strength and the company’s three divisions (at the time). This distinctive visual identity has defined Teichert for more than five decades.
